5. Myasthenia ( muscle weakness ) is characterized by damage in the transmission of neurotic impulse and decreased amount of acetyleholine due to autoimmune mechanisms. Prozerine is used for treatment of this disease.Specify the mechanism of this drug action. For this: 1) Write the reaction of acceptebolin.: degradation at neuromuscular junction. 2) What enzyme will be inhibited with prozerine? Name the class of this enzyme. 3) What is the mechanism of this enzyme inhibition?

1) The reaction of acetylcholine degradation at the neuromuscular junction is catalyzed by the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. The reaction can be represented as:Acetylcholine + H2O → Acetate + Choline2) Prozerine (also known as neostigmine) inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. Acetylcholinesterase is a type of enzyme called a cholinesterase.3) The mechanism of acetylcholinesterase inhibition by prozerine is reversible inhibition. Prozerine binds to the active site of acetylcholinesterase, preventing the enzyme from catalyzing the degradation of acetylcholine. This results in an increased concentration of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, leading to increased muscle contraction and improved muscle strength in patients with myasthenia.
